Patients in the Columbus, OH community and beyond who are interested in addressing imperfections that are present on the front (anterior) teeth are welcome to ask our team of professionals at Schindler Dentistry about the benefits of reversible facings called Lumineers.
What are Lumineers?
Lumineers are a specific brand of porcelain veneers. Veneers are ceramic facings that the dentist will custom-create for patients to bond onto the front of the natural tooth to change its appearance. These restorations are perfect for patients who want to cover:
- Gaps between the teeth
- Broken or chipped teeth
- Unusually shaped teeth
- Misaligned/crooked teeth
When patients have these imperfections in their smile, these thin porcelain shells can help disguise them. What makes Lumineers differ from traditional porcelain veneers is the fact that they can be placed without preparations to the natural teeth. Traditional veneers do require that patients have the front enamel of their teeth filed down to place the veneer without adding extra bulk. However, this cannot be reversed, so once the veneers are placed, patients need to maintain them because of the removal of enamel. Lumineers, on the other hand, do not require the patient to have preparations made to their smile beforehand. They can be bonded into place and later removed if patients desire. This removable restoration allows patients to make changes to their smile until they decide to have another treatment performed.
Who is a candidate for Lumineers?
Patients who are best for Lumineers are those that have imperfections on the front of the smile that they’d like to quickly and easily cover up. We encourage patients to ask about this treatment and undergo an evaluation to see if they can use these restorations to enhance their smile.
