Dr. Schindler will guide your journey through what may be uncharted waters for you.

How does a dental implant function? Most people are aware their natural teeth are held in place by a reaching root that anchors to your upper or lower jawbone. When a tooth dies or is extracted, this root ceases its function. A bridge or denture fitted on the surface is only that: an external treatment. It is unable to prevent the root and ridge area of your mouth from shrinking as the space beneath remains void. Over time, bridges and dentures become ill fitting and require adjustment.

A dental implant is a small, sturdy titanium post that takes on the function of a root in that it is surgically anchored and assimilated into the jawbone. This provides stability and strength to the tooth-like restoration installed on the surface.

Dr. Schindler will ensure your new implant tooth is a crowning success by matching its color and sheen to blend seamlessly amongst your existing teeth. Dental implants leave Columbus Ohio patients ecstatic to have back fully functional, aesthetically pleasing teeth! Consult us to learn more today!

Granted, a visit to the dentist is likely not on your list of enjoyable things to do at the start of a new year. On the other hand, it is the perfect time to bite the bullet and bring your oral health back up to top condition.

This is especially true when it comes to replacing your old silver fillings. While amalgam fillings are cheap and durable, the controversy over their potentially negative health effects continues. On top of that, the alternative porcelain fillings are long lasting, great looking, and safe. Switching to a higher quality of care seems only reasonable when you remember that it is your health and the beauty of your smile that is at stake. And it doesn’t have to be an arduous task – we’ll help you book a fast, easy, convenient appointment that fits into your busy schedule.

Make this year one in which you finally decide to really take care of yourself, starting with your oral health. You can feel great, inside and out, with a healthy mouth and a radiant smile – all with the help of your professional in high quality dentistry in the Ohio area. You need only make the call.

Do you desire a whiter smile, but feel confused regarding the best method to achieve it? Our dental clinic in Columbus Ohio can shed some light on the topic. Teeth whitening is a purely cosmetic procedure, so most maintain a singular goal of achieving a more light and vibrant smile. But at what cost?

Do-it-yourself whitening products have flooded the market. Should you avail yourself of this convenience? The American Dental Association strongly advises against doing so without seeking the guidance of a dental professional. Failure to do so could actually damage your teeth or gum tissue. We can explain why.

When was the last time you received a dental check-up? If you’ve developed cavities, fractures, tooth sensitivity, or gum issues that are currently untreated, your tooth whitening experience could be a painful one! Whitening agents are powerful and can exacerbate existing oral conditions, requiring more extensive dental repairs in the future. Is a drugstore-purchased whitening kit able to assess the state of your health? No, but Dr. Schindler can!

There’s something else to consider. Depending on our genetics, the underlying hue of our teeth will fall into one of several categories. They may naturally contain a slight yellow hue, for example, and will respond easily to whitening agents. Or you may have inherited a grey hue and whitening could be very challenging. A dental professional is trained to make these distinctions and chose a whitening product and method based on what will be most effective for you as an individual.

Dr. Schindler welcomes your visit to her dental clinic in Columbus Ohio! You’ll discover a dazzling, whiter smile…the safe way!

Providing Columbus Ohio with family dentistry, Dr. Schindler can tell you it’s around the age of 6 or 7. It’s important these new molars be cared for properly since they’re intended to last a lifetime. They also help determine the shape of the lower face and affect the position and health of other permanent teeth. Does this knowledge suddenly have you rethinking your child’s oral health habits?

Thorough tooth brushing will help remove food particles and plaque (a sticky film of bacteria constantly coating teeth) from the smooth surfaces of teeth, but what collects in the pits and grooves is often missed. We all can hope our children are diligent in their brushing and flossing, but most parents recognize it’s not a reality. What can be done to protect their valuable molars, short of brushing and flossing for them?

Dental sealants have been designed to protect these vulnerable areas by sealing out debris and plaque bacteria. A sealant is a plastic material that usually is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth where decay most often occurs.

Between the ages of six and twelve, your child’s mouth will be a scene of constant change. Oral health issues that develop during these formative years will stay with your child into and throughout adulthood. Visit us at Schindler dentistry, our Columbus Ohio family dentistry clinic, to learn how to keep your child’s smile a healthy one!

Enamel (the protective coating on teeth) is the hardest substance in the human body. But just as Kryptonite weakened Superman’s strength in his comic book adventures, enamel too has a nemesis that can lower its defensive resistance and result in dental erosion.

The culprit is the acid found in the everyday acidic foods and drinks that we consume throughout the normal course of our lives. Various wines, along with vinegar-based salad dressings contain higher acid levels. Some pucker up and suck on lemons, perhaps in an attempt to whiten their teeth or to flavor beverages and foods, but many fruits and fruit juices also contain high citric acid levels. Interestingly, it is not just the “regular” but also the “diet” carbonated beverages that often contain both phosphoric and citric acid.

These acidic foods and drinks contribute to a lowering of the pH level in the mouth. This acid temporarily softens the enamel on the teeth. Prolonged exposure can thin the layer of enamel until there is no longer that important level protection for the teeth. This can lead to serious dental problems. Therefore, controlling what and when we eat/drink is vital in protecting teeth. Remember to cleanse your mouth by brushing after each meal and be aware of drinking highly acidic beverages in the middle of the day when the opportunity to clean your teeth may not be available.

Regular dental visits in Columbus Ohio are also essential as they provide a professional cleaning and early detection of any concerns with your oral health. Through technology, such as the use of a dental light, your dentist can see signs of dental erosion that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Though none of us may wear the blue tights, cape, and big “S” on our chest like Superman, we all encounter the “Kryptonite” that can weaken our teeth. Please contact us today, and allow our dental office in Columbus Ohio to help you have the healthy teeth and smile that a super hero deserves.

Why is it any different with your gums? These situations call for the aid of periodontics. Ohio dentist Dr. Schindler is well experienced in the area of periodontal disease.

Swollen and bleeding gums are an early sign that your gums are infected with bacteria. If the infection spreads, it can destroy the structures that support your teeth in your jawbone. The result can be the removal of several teeth. The major cause of periodontal disease is plaque and bacteria. In recent years, gum disease has been linked to other health problems such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and respiratory disease. Gum disease can increase the risk of these diseases or worsen already existing conditions.

You can prevent periodontal disease by practicing good oral hygiene. Daily brushing and flossing, when done correctly, can help remove most of the plaque from your teeth. Professional cleanings by your dentist or dental hygienist will keep plaque under control in places that are harder for a toothbrush or floss to reach.

The latest techniques in periodontal treatment are offered at Dr. Schindler Dentistry. Scaling and root planing in addition to the high tech Diode laser, used to eliminate unhealthy gum tissue painlessly, can effectively treat periodontal disease. Come and visit us at Schindler Dentistry in Ohio, and prevent periodontal disease from affecting your smile and your confidence!

However, if because of poor oral hygiene, an injury to the jaw, or other causes, an extraction has been necessary, dental implants in Ohio may be the best option to regain your smile! Dental implants offer those who have lost their teeth a more aesthetic looking replacement that function like natural teeth.

Dental implants can greatly transform the way a person feels about themselves. Missing teeth can cause a person to shy away from people or make them feel inferior. They may also try to hide their teeth when speaking and even suppress their smile. Dental implants will make your smile look better, feel better, and give your self- confidence a huge boost!

Replacing the missing teeth is not the only aesthetic benefit either. When a tooth is lost, the bone that held the tooth in place begins to shrink. When this happens, your mouth tends to have a “caved in” appearance. Dental implants serve to stimulate the jawbone to prevent bone loss and facial distortion so that you preserve your facial structure and smile for years to come.

You can work with the dentist and his team to get the right option for you. Patients get their own unique treatment based upon their individual taste so as to achieve the look they desire. Moreover, with proper care and regular checkups, dental implants can last a lifetime. Call today and make an appointment to see what dental implants can do for Ohio residents like you.

Dr. Schindler, a highly regarded and award winning dentist in Columbus Ohio can help you find out why this is happening. More importantly, her expertise will help rectify the cause and help you regain strong, healthy gums and teeth.

What can cause swollen, red gums that bleed easily? There can be a number of factors, but the most common culprit is inadequate oral hygiene. What can it lead too? Something called periodontal disease.

Perio-what? might be your response. But the fact that you may not have heard of it does not mean that it is uncommon. In fact, periodontal disease is the 2nd most common disease in the world. It is also know as gum disease or gingivitis (which is the mildest form of periodontitus)

The word periodontal literally means “around the tooth” and the disease refers to a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums, your jawbone, as well as one or more of your teeth. Though there can be little or no pain at the beginning stages, gum disease is progressive. If left untreated, it can result in infection, inflammation and tooth loss, among other health issues. One of the best ways to prevent this disease is to schedule regular visits with your dentist.

Tooth decay and inflammation of your gums is no laughing matter. If you have gums that bleed or any other dental concerns, contact your dentist right away. Practicing as a respected dentist in the Columbus Ohio and surrounding areas, Dr. Schindler can help care for your needs.

Why should you have to put up with gaps in your teeth, unsightly stains, or crooked teeth? By visiting Dr. Schindler, you will see if porcelain veneers in Ohio can successfully improve your smile.

Porcelain Veneers, also known as dental veneers or laminates, are shells of porcelain that are bonded to the anterior (front) teeth in order to improve the look and even the function of your smile. Porcelain Veneers can correct uneven or crooked teeth, internally and externally stained teeth that cannot be whitened, teeth that are sensitive and those that have been worn down from grinding.

Dr. Schindler will explain that Porcelain Veneers do not require any special care aside from regular brushing and flossing. They are also highly resilient to food stains such as coffee and tea.

This procedure is one of the most non-invasive that you’ll ever experience. Your natural teeth do not need to be ground down as there is little more than a .5mm tooth reduction! Also, depending on tooth sensitivity, local anaesthetic is usually not required. This procedure usually takes only three trips to the dentist: 1) the consultation, 2) the preparation of the teeth for the veneers and 3) the placement of the veneers.

The lifetime of porcelain veneers is usually between 5 to 10 years based on patient care and the dentist’s techniques, and if performed by a highly skilled and talented dentist, porcelain veneers produce excellent aesthetic results. For a consultation to see if you are a candidate in Ohio for porcelain veneers, call us at Dr. Schindler’s office today for an appointment.
